Ramadhan Series of Ordinary Jakartans :)

Ramadhan is coming. For moeslem, it is good thing, even for Jakartans (people of Jakarta) it is better news a haha. Why? Let me tell you about this by writing this article. Well, personally Jakarta people, who come from all over the parts of the country are really diverse. The hectic life of big city along with its pressure sometime turn the people are bit emotional, selfish and somehow frightening ahaha. Well, during Ramadhan, person is expected to be better version of himself/ herself. Guess what?! It works! The ambience of Ramadhan seems awesome as people really learn how to be patient, friendly and nice. I just wish that Ramadhan happens in daily basis year-long so Jakarta will be better place to live in

Well, as Jakartan I really enjoyed this year series of Ramadhan with bunch of activities to do. There was time when my friends and I did Sahur on The Road (SoTR). Moeslem do fasting from morning till dawn and in midnight or early in the morning we have meal time called ‘sahur’ SoTR means activity of sahur that we do on the road (ahaha what definition that is). We collected money, and it was up to 2.17 millions rupiah and we used the money to buy meals package. There were around 132 packages that we gave to the poor we found on the road. Jakarta has been facing economic inequality. Some people are really rice while another dark side is poverty could be easily found there in Pancoran, Menteng, Cikini and Salemba. People live with less than a dollar a day and have no shelter to settle in are there. It was not that difficult to find people we targeted from 01.30-04.00 AM. This means that poor people are there on the road of Jakarta. I just wish that the current and upcoming government will be able to solve this problem. Amen. For me myself, it has been years long since my last SoTR and last week SoTR for sure was really enjoyable. I thank friends for that event.

People could not live without music, so do I. Jakarta has many cool spots where music concerts are regularly performed. It was nice to enjoy afternoon by watching ‘Ramadhankan Hatiku’ music concert. The performers were Hedi Yunus (hediyunus) featuring Melly Goeslaw (@melly_goeslaw). These two musicians are nationally popular for their amazing music and created songs, especially love songs for sure. Melly is well known for songs used as back songs of various popular Indonesia’s films such as ‘Ayat-Ayat Cinta’, ‘Ketika Cinta Bertasbih’ or ‘Di Bawah Lindungan Ka’bah’. She is also popular for her song entitled ‘Bunda’ or ‘mother’, a song dedicated to appreciate mother. Listening to these people sing alive was really good. Their voices were nice in ear and more importantly could tame my hungry stomach before the break-fasting time comes ahaha.

TULUS. Yeah, many Indonesians know tulus. Tulus (@tulusm) is young singer well-known for his amazing voice. It was Ramadhan Jazz Festival 2014 that made me listen to his voice directly for the first time. The festival brought many Indonesian singers and musicians especially jazz for sure to perform in two days. The festival was even more special as it took place in the garden of Cut Meutia mosque, one of the most beautiful mosque in Jakarta. Listening to Tulus’s voice was damn good, I swear! Yeah! Other performers were also awesome. I just found myself that I started to have interest in jazz ehehe.

Well, those are couple things done by regular Jakartans during Ramadhan. Praying activities and gathering with friends and relatives could also be easily found in the city. Hah, I just want to enjoy my whole Ramadhan with good time, moment and activities in hand. I hope you too
